The Quarter-Finals Belonged to the Superstars

Quarter-final results. Yellow marks the team that advanced to the semi-finals.
There were no giant-killings this time. The favorites turned up, and their best players decided it.

France were the pick of the round. They swept Morocco aside 2-0 in an attacking masterclass, with Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele scoring in a six-minute burst just past the hour, and the 2-0 scoreline flattered a Morocco side that was under siege all night. France have now outscored their opponents 16-2 across the tournament.

Spain did it late, again. Mikel Merino struck in the 88th minute to beat Belgium 2-1, the same super-sub act that sank Portugal in the last round. Belgium's equalizer was notable for one reason: it was the only goal Spain have conceded all tournament.

England came through a war. Jude Bellingham scored twice in extra time to beat Norway 2-1, first to equalize and then to win it, after Harry Kane and Erling Haaland both went quiet. The win matched England's record of five victories in a single World Cup, set on their 1966 title run.

Argentina survived one more scare. Julian Alvarez smashed in a 112th-minute winner to beat a ten-man Switzerland 3-1 in extra time, the third straight knockout tie the holders have had to grind out. They keep advancing, but they keep leaning on their stars to do it.
For the First Time, the Top Four Seeds Are the Final Four
Here is the stat that frames the whole weekend. For the first time in World Cup history, all four of FIFA's top-ranked teams entering the tournament have reached the semi-finals.
After a month of upsets, hosts crashing out, and Norway ambushing Brazil, the bracket has snapped back to order. France, Spain, England, and Argentina are the four best teams by ranking, and now they are the four best teams left standing. The romance is gone. What remains is elite.
The Survival Campaign Enters the Final Stretch
The ApeX World Cup Survival campaign is now at the sharp end, where there is almost no margin left.
Our leaderboard currently sits at 449 participants, with the top spot held by a player on 50,000 points, 51 correct predictions, and a win streak of 32.
With four teams left, there is nowhere to hide. Every prediction from here is a coin toss between two elite sides, and one wrong call ends a run that took a month to build. This is where champions of the leaderboard are made.

The prizes make it worth the risk. The points shop is stacked with exclusive World Cup rewards, and there is still USDT on the table:
A Messi-signed Argentina jersey or football
The official World Cup 2026 LEGO trophy set
A PlayStation 5 and FC 26 bundle
Plenty more, with additional USDT still up for grabs
Redeem your points, hold your nerve, and there is something to play for right up to the final whistle.
The Semi-Finals Give Us Two Blockbusters

Two matches, four giants, and a place in the New Jersey final on the line in each.
France vs Spain (Dallas, July 14)
The tie the whole tournament has been building toward. These are the two favorites, and by the format's quirk they meet a round early. The winner becomes the overwhelming favorite to lift the trophy. France are unbeaten and rampant, powered by Mbappe, Dembele, and Michael Olise. Spain bring a 36-game unbeaten run and the meanest defense in the competition, plus teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. The two last met at Euro 2024, which Spain won 2-1.
England vs Argentina (Atlanta, July 15)
History and heavyweight talent in one tie. Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are tied for the Golden Boot lead on eight goals apiece, and Messi will need to be at his best again against an England side built around Harry Kane and Bellingham. The subplot writes itself: England chasing a first final since 1966, Argentina chasing back-to-back titles.
Where the Predictions Are Leaning

Both semis are close to coin flips, but the model still leans one way in each. France sit just under 41% to beat Spain, with Spain around 30% and a live draw threat, reflecting France's status as the clear favourite to win the whole tournament at +140. Spain are dangerous because they carry a 36-game unbeaten run and the meanest defence in the competition, conceding just one goal all tournament, but France's 16-2 goal difference makes them the pick. The other semi is tighter still: England edge it near 37% to Argentina's 32%, and the bookmakers agree, making England slight favourites to advance. Argentina's danger is obvious, with Lionel Messi tied for the Golden Boot lead on eight goals.
Here is how the models and markets read the final four. France sit on top, but the margins in the semis are thin.
France vs Spain: France favored, around 41% in the model to Spain's 30%, with a real draw threat. France are the clear favorite to win the whole thing at +140, with Spain next best.
England vs Argentina: the tighter of the two, with England edging it near 37% to Argentina's 32%. Bookmakers make England slight favorites to advance.
Title odds: France lead the field, followed by England, Spain, then Argentina.
One pundit's call: France 2-1 over Spain, and England 3-2 over Argentina.
If you want a lean for your Survival picks, the models point to France and England reaching the final, but both semis are close enough that a bold contrarian call could be the one that wins or breaks your streak.
